The first game for the Texas Rangers with Bret Boone as their hitting coach saw the beleaguered offense score six times and collect 16 hits in a 6-1 win over the Red Sox. Evan Carter had two hits in his return to the major leagues, Josh Smith collected three more hits, and Joc Pederson had his best game. One thought is that pressure had been lifted and minds had been cleared following the dismissal of offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker. The beneficiary was right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who continued his strong start to the season by allowing one run in six innings.
