The Texas Rangers wasted multiple chances at the plate Thursday in the finale with the Red Sox, and the Red Sox took advantage of theirs against Jack Leiter in a 5-0 victory at Fenway Park. Leiter’s issue was putting away hitters, which contributed to four walks in 5 1/3 innings. He finished better than he started but needs to end at-bats sooner going forward. The Rangers took five walks against Red Sox starter Brayan Bello but didn’t score. Marcus Semien failed multiple times with runners in scoring position on a day when Corey Seager (hamstring) was off. Next up for the Rangers is a series at Detroit, where the Tigers are 13-3 at home and have reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal in the opener.
