The weekend didn’t go as well as it could have for the Texas Rangers, who split a four-game series with the Astros. The bullpen is in the middle of a rash of injuries, including a shoulder ailment for Chris Martin, but the offense and the starting rotation are doing good things. The Rangers’ offense has been better since Bret Boone was hired as hitting coach, especially Josh Jung and Josh Smith. Others, like Marcus Semien, still need to pick it up. The improvements might be minimal statistically across the league, but the offense has improved. Jack Leiter gave the rotation another boost Sunday, when he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the Rangers will roll out Patrick Corbin, Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi in a three-game series this week against the Yankees in the Bronx.
