Right-hander Jacob deGrom didn’t allow a hit Wednesday night until the eighth inning, the longest no-hit bid of his career, and helped the Texas Rangers beat the Orioles.

BALTIMORE — Jacob deGrom took a no-hitter into the eighth inning Wednesday night, settling for a one-hitter over seven scoreless innings in his best start of an impressive first full season after Tommy John surgery for the Texas Rangers.

The Rangers beat the Orioles 7-0 to win the three-game series and finish the first half of the 2025 season at 40-41. DeGrom finished with seven strikeouts and lowered his ERA to a scant 2.08.

The right-hander was perfect through six innings before issuing a leadoff walk to Jackson Holliday. That was the first of two deGrom walks in the inning, which pushed his pitch count to 85 pitches.

He returned for the eighth and watched Colton Cowser’s soft grounder leak into right field between Josh Smith and Marcus Semien. The hit came on deGrom’s 89th pitch, and manager Bruce Bochy came to the mound and summoned Jacob Webb from the bullpen.

Seven innings is the deepest deGrom has taken a no-hitter in his career, and the six perfect frames mark the longest such stretch to start a game in his career.

The game was not in doubt when deGrom exited the game. Josh Jung drove in the Rangers’ first three runs, the last two on his first homer since May 16. Corey Seager, Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia drove in a run apiece in the fifth, and Jonah Heim homered in the sixth.

The series win is the Rangers’ fourth in a row on the road, an area where they needed to improve. The seven runs were the most they scored on their six-game road trip to Pittsburgh and Camden Yards.

Kenny Rogers’ perfect game in 1994 is still the last Rangers no-hitter.
