The Dallas Cowboys have placed defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey (back) on the team’s injured reserve list and will miss the next four games.
Winfrey did not play in the team’s season opener last Thursday against the Eagles.
The former Oklahoma product, who did not play during the 2024 NFL season, spent this past spring with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League, where he earned recognition on the 2025 All-UFL Team.
The Cowboys signed the 25-year old, back on June 18 and was the only player from the 2025 UFL season to make an NFL 53-man roster.
Before joining the UFL, he was a member of the New York Jets’ practice squad in 2023, following his time with the Cleveland Browns, who selected him with the 108th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and appeared in 13 games as a rookie, and recorded 25 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and two pass deflections.
Winfrey’s journey to making the roster, was met with an emotional moment from head coach Brian Schottenheimer during the finalization of the teams 53-man roster.
“We brought Perrion in, and he assumed he was being cut. He walked in and sat down in my office. Will (McClay) and I were in there. I did play it up a little bit, I was a pretty good actor if I do say so myself, then I said: “These are hard days, and a lot of hard conversations have to happen,” Schotty said. “And this is one I’ve been looking forward to because I am telling you that you made the team.” He became emotional. I became emotional. I looked over at McClay he was emotional,” Schottenheimer recalled.
