The Texas Rangers rallied Sunday to force extra innings and give themselves a chance at a three-game sweep over the Mets in New York. It just didn’t work out. Pete Alonso connected for a three-run homer in the 10th to deliver a 5-2 walk-off win. The Rangers won the series by winning the first two games, and they need to pull off another series win Monday through Thursday at Houston. The Astros are no longer in first place in the American League West but are ahead of the Rangers in the wild-card standings. Adolis Garcia returned from the injured list Sunday, just in time to face an Astros team that he torments. The Rangers need more good starting pitching, with Jack Leiter first up and followed by Merrill Kelly and Jacob deGrom.
