The Philadelphia Eagles have been begging to be dropped from the top spot all season and they finally gave it up with a late collapse against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Meanwhile, with the Bills, Chiefs and Ravens all losing too, this NFL season truly seems wide open.
That’s great news for the Detroit Lions, who are proving their Super Bowl window is still wide open despite losing both coordinators in the offseason.
As we head into Week 6, here are thoughts on all 32 teams in our weekly NFL Power Rankings:
1. Detroit Lions (Last Week: 3) (4-1) – The Week 1 disaster against the Packers appears to be the exception to the rule, and it’s the defense that might carry the Lions deep into the playoffs.
2. Buffalo Bills (2) (4-1) – Not going to panic about one loss, but the Bills should take the Patriots seriously in the AFC East.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (1) (4-1) – If I’m the Eagles, I’d be worried about not getting the No. 1 seed in the NFC. It’s hard to picture their offense keeping up with the Lions on the road right now.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5) (4-1) – It’s never easy to win in Seattle and the Bucs are sitting pretty as they should only get healthier.
5. Los Angeles Rams (4) (3-2) – The Rams really gave away that game to the 49ers, but have a good chance to bounce back in Baltimore against the banged-up Ravens.
6. San Francisco 49ers (12) (4-1) – Credit to Mac Jones, who showed a ton of grit in that win against the Rams.
7. Kansas City Chiefs (6) (2-3) – Something is off in Kansas City right now. Everyone distracted by the new Taylor Swift album? (It’s good.)
8. Indianapolis Colts (13) (4-1) – If you want to learn a lot about football, watch Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason’s press conference every week. I’m completely serious. This week’s opening statement was seven minutes and 30 seconds (a total of 1,730 words) and all of it was informative. He’s a great special teams coordinator and his press conferences are fantastic.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars (16) (4-1) – The defense is playing great, but a key downfield throw from Trevor Lawrence to Brian Thomas Jr. helped beat the Chiefs and they need BTJ to be that guy the rest of the season.
10. Green Bay Packers (9) (2-1-1) – Could Joe Flacco beat the Packers for the second time this season? That seems very unlikely, but it’s a fun wrinkle this weekend.
11. Denver Broncos (14) (3-2) – Sean Payton’s decision to go for two was unconventional (and if he was going to do that, I’m not sure why he didn’t do it on the first touchdown), but it paid off big.
12. Seattle Seahawks (10) (3-2) – Sam Darnold really hasn’t skipped a beat since leaving Minnesota and honestly, I’m surprised. Good for him.
13. Minnesota Vikings (11) (3-2) – Meanwhile, the Vikings could probably use Sam Darnold right now.
14. Los Angeles Chargers (7) (3-2) – The Chargers squandered multiple chances to control that game against the Commanders. Instead, they somehow lost by 17.
15. Baltimore Ravens (8) (1-4) – If the Ravens can steal one against the Rams before heading into a much-needed bye week, they still might be able to turn their season around.
16. New England Patriots (22) (3-2) – Drake Maye looks legitimate and this team is clearly buying into the new coaching staff.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers (15) (3-1) – Coming off the bye, the Steelers have two must-win games against the Browns and Bengals in the AFC North.
18. Washington Commanders (18) (3-2) – I think we’ll learn a lot about both the Commanders and Bears on Monday night.
19. Houston Texans (20) (2-3) – The No. 1 scoring defense finally got some help from the offense, but we’ll see if it’s sustainable after the bye week when the Texans have to play a night game in Seattle.
20. Chicago Bears (19) (2-2) – Some players are downplaying the revenge aspect of going back to Washington D.C. after last year’s Fail Mary, while others are acknowledging it. Either way, it’s a big game for Ben Johnson’s team.
21. Atlanta Falcons (21) (2-2) – Good Penix or bad Penix this year? Your guess is as good as mine.
22. Dallas Cowboys (24) (2-2-1) – What torture it must be to constantly think about what this team could look like with a legitimate pass rusher.
23. Cincinnati Bengals (23) (2-3) – I understand the trade for Joe Flacco. I just think it’s unrealistic to think he’ll survive behind that offensive line.
24. Arizona Cardinals (17) (2-3) – Jonathan Gannon is on the verge of losing his locker room, if he hasn’t already. The response in Indianapolis this week will tell us everything.
25. Carolina Panthers (30) (2-3) – Rico Dowdle exploded out of the Panthers’ backfield last week and now gets to face the Cowboys’ awful run defense. “Buckle up,” is right.
26. Cleveland Browns (26) (1-4) – It still feels like this Browns team is capable of stealing a win on any given week. I’d be on high alert in Pittsburgh this weekend.
27. Las Vegas Raiders (27) (1-4) – It’s just not working with Geno Smith in Las Vegas.
28. New Orleans Saints (31) (1-4) – This team isn’t good, but they’ve played tough in four of their five games.
29. New York Giants (25) (1-4) – Losing to the Saints before hosting an Eagles team looking to get-right in a hurry is rough. The Giants’ only hope is that it’s a Thursday night.
30. Tennessee Titans (32) (1-4) – What a gift the Titans got in Arizona. But it doesn’t seem sustainable.
31. Miami Dolphins (28) (1-4) – At least the Dolphins have one more game against the Jets?
32. New York Jets (29) (0-5) – It just seems cruel to keep sending the Jets to London. That wonderful city deserves better.
