The Texas Rangers announced Friday night that they hired Skip Schumaker as manager on a four-year contract, replacing Bruce Bochy. The 21st manager in Rangers history has some work to do, and the work has already started. Catching coordinator Bobby Wilson won’t be back, and decisions on the rest of the coaching staff are pending. President of baseball operations Chris Young said that all of them were in good standing and would be welcomed back, pending the needs of Schumaker. He will also be tasked with trying to create the culture needed to win games and spearheading the offensive philosophy that will help the Rangers score more runs.
