Take it from the horse’s mouth: Skip Schumaker’s stated No. 1 priority as the new manager of the Texas Rangers is to create a winning culture. That’s not easy to do in the offseason, but he has already started talking to players. Ultimately, though, he might have to wait until spring training to learn what makes each player tick and to convince them to commit to doing whatever it takes each game to win that day. A cynic might say that the Rangers were lacking that in 2025, if Schumaker thinks culture is his No. 1 job. He also still has a coaching staff to put together, and he is aware of the time crunch facing those coaches who won’t be returning. Some won’t be returning. The third priority is instilling his offensive philosophy, which he said is rooted in situational hitting.
