The defense returned to reality a week after dominating the Washington Commanders.
Dallas entered Week 8 down several players in its secondary, including CB Trevon Diggs, and safeties Donovan Wilson, and Juanyeh Thomas.
Despite the injuries, defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus will once again have plenty of questions to field after watching his unit give up 427 yards and 44 points to Bo Nix and the Broncos’ offense.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, for the first time since Week 4, watched his streak of no turnovers come to an end after a second quarter interception and threw two overall on the afternoon, and no touchdowns.
Javonte Williams scored twice and CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens still managed solid performances combining for 14 receptions for 152 yards.
Dallas had an opportunity for a statement win against a good football team and failed to deliver one.

The Dallas Cowboys simply weren’t ready for Week 8 in Denver on Sunday.
In what had the makings of a statement game for the team and quarterback Dak Prescott’s MVP run, the Cowboys were blown out by the Broncos in every phase of the game.
The defense couldn’t stop the run or the pass and gave up big plays by the bushel. It was quite an embarrassing performance by a unit that was already the worst inept in the league and trending towards the worst in franchise history.
The Broncos had three running backs average more than 6 yards per carry and quarterback Bo Nix tossed four touchdown passes to wide open receivers.
Prescott and the Cowboys offense not only couldn’t keep up but the quarterback proved to be quite human after a four game run with 14 touchdowns and no interceptions..
Prescott tossed two picks and failed to throw a touchdown pass.
Prescott was sacked just twice but he was under duress most of the game. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens had solid outings but were not difference makers on the outside.
