CeeDee Lamb has seen a constant game of musical chairs played at the No. 2 wide receiver spot for the Dallas Cowboys.

Names like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and Brandin Cooks have come and gone since his arrival as a rookie first-round pick in 2020.

During the 2025 offseason, Dallas was once again in search of a playmaker opposite of No. 88, and the hope was to find one that could be highly impactful. The Cowboys did just that by trading a 2026 third and a 2027 fifth-round pick with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire George Pickens.

Fast forward now eight games into the 2025 season, the Cowboys have been clear winners in this trade. Pickens has recorded 43 receptions for 685 yards and already has a career high of six touchdown receptions.

Now, the question that has crossed the minds of many, with Pickens in a contract year, is whether Dallas will be able to bring back, as well as meet, what could be a high asking price for a player who is also represented by a familiar agent, David Mulugheta, who also represents Micah Parsons.

“Yeah I absolutely want him to come back,” Lamb said. “That’s my guy, I feel we have grown this bond in a matter of minutes. I want what’s best for him whether that’s him making the most money in the NFL at the position or whatever that looks like. But I do want him to win.”

Lamb admitted that, at this stage in his career and after playing opposite different pass catchers, this was the time to bring in a consistent threat, one that he hopes to grow with in the long run.

“I do enjoy that, obviously a guy of his caliber is definitely a one,” Lamb added. “I look at him as a one and his ability to go catch the ball. I learn things from him, vice versa, you know. We can grow at this position together, and I mean, we only got x amount of years together. So, for really just in this league, and it’s not promised, nor is it loyal to anybody, so get as much in put as much out, and they do it together.”

For Pickens, when asked if he had given the topic much thought, his response and focus were simple: to continue to focus on the field.

“That’s kind of up to what he (Jerry Jones) wants to do,” Pickens told reporters on Thursday. “All I can do is just perform at my best. I kind of don’t get into that stuff I can only like be where my feet is. So I kind of just stay with the guys, do my best and put my best foot forward.”

Lamb who went through a whole contract saga himself during the 2024 offseason, was asked about the advice he would give Pickens on dealing with Jerry Jones.

“Stay positive. Your money is gonna come,” he said.

As the year goes on, there will be plenty to unfold with Pickens’ future.

With the NFL trade deadline nearing, the idea of trading the star wideout, who could command a substantial amount, has been raised by fans and media if the team believes they can’t retain him or cannot meet the potential asking price.

According to Spotrac, Pickens’ value currently sits at $29.1 million per year.

Furthermore, Dallas could hold on to the 24-year-old, and if a deal can’t be reached, there is the idea of the franchise tag.

Regardless of the outcome, the front office will have to face and make a decision in the near future.
