Breaking news involving the Texas Rangers: Mike Maddux will not be returning as pitching coach. Instead, he’s headed to the Angels in an unexpected coaching shakeup. Part of the reason for Maddux’s departure could be timing, as all MLB coaches are set to become free agents Oct. 31. Also, the Rangers gave the Angels permission to talk to Maddux, which might have sent him mixed signals about their desire to keep him on Skip Schumaker’s first coaching staff. The team said that it offered Maddux a contract that he declined.
