The Dallas Cowboys have waived cornerback Trevon Diggs, sources confirmed to DLLS. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Per source, “This was not a result of a specific incident. It was the culmination of multiple factors spread over time, including both performance and other elements. Felt it was best for both Trevon and the Cowboys at this point.”

Diggs will now go through the waiver process, and if he goes unclaimed, he’ll become a free agent.

The former All-Pro appeared in eight games this season and finished with 25 tackles.

Diggs, who led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021 (tied for a Cowboys franchise record), signed a $97 million extension in 2023, but injuries have defined much of the stretch since, including a torn ACL in 2023, knee surgery in January 2025, and another knee injury this season that sent him to injured reserve in October.

Overall, the Cowboys’ 2020 second-round pick has missed 29 games over the past three seasons.

The 2025 season was full of plenty of story lines for the two-time Pro Bowl defender.

Diggs was docked $500,000 from his base salary under a contract clause that required him to rehab at the team’s facility, but he chose to rehab in Miami instead.

He would open the 2025 training camp period on the PUP list while recovering from his knee surgery, and eventually was healthy enough to play Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In October, just days ahead of the Cowboys’ Week 7 matchup vs. the Commanders, Diggs suffered a concussion at his home and was ruled out. A week later, he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, which caused him to miss the next seven games.

Diggs would later return for the Cowboys’ Week 16 matchup vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, where he revealed weeks later, that his mysterious concussion was due to a mounted TV pole that fell on his head.

His final game as a Cowboy was on Christmas Day against the Washington Commanders.

If he clears waiver, the release of Diggs means Dallas, per Spotrac, will account for $5.88 million in dead cap for 2026, and will save $12.5 million.

Diggs concludes his six-year Cowboys tenure with 240 tackles, 20 interceptions, 63 pass deflections, and two touchdowns.
