With the ball caroming off the rim, San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle soared for a putback dunk that even left some Mavericks fans stunned.
The dunk was a microcosm of Castle’s night. He finished with 40 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists as the Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 138-125 on Saturday night.
Klay Thompson led Dallas with 19 points in the loss. Cooper Flagg, who battled a shoulder injury, finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. Max Christie scored 17 points, and Brandon Williams added 18.
San Antonio scored 81 points in the first half, the most Dallas has allowed in a half this season. The Mavericks have now lost a season-high seven consecutive games, and the defeat snapped Flagg’s streak of four straight games with at least 30 points.
The Mavericks will play the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday.
