If you were growing sick and tired of hearing about Jason Robertson’s next contract, well, so were we.

For what felt like two-plus months and five days a week, the DLLS Stars crew broke down what Robertson’s next contract could look like, who it would be with, and hit on every trade rumor coming down the pipeline.

Well, now, we can all exhale… for now.

On Tuesday night, the Stars signed Robertson to a one-year, $12 million contract extension. The deal avoids the upcoming July 25 arbitration date, something neither side truly wanted to take part in. It also ensures that Robertson will be wearing No. 21 in Victory Green to begin the 2026-27 NHL season. Well, unless he changes his sweater number for some reason.

For Dallas, this is a win.

Sure, they aren’t going to love that big ol’ pending UFA status staring them in the face next summer, and the feeling of potentially losing him for nothing is less than ideal. But, Robertson is signed. They brought him back for exactly the AAV they were willing to pay, and they aren’t looking at a gaping left-wing sized hole at the top of their lineup.

Their guy, a consistent 40-goal scorer who is only getting better and more balanced every season, is part of their plan to run it back and try to win the 2027 Stanley Cup.

We will get into what the potential lineup could look like and why there are still some holes to fill in a minute. But on the surface, and when only looking at the player they are keeping, it’s a win for the Stars. Now, they can turn the page to the season and revisit Robertson’s contract status after Jan. 1.
