Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has become accustomed to life in the bubble as the face of America’s Team and one of the most popular franchises in all of sports.

When his brother died of suicide a few years ago, it made national news. Prescott thanked the media for helping spread the word about the importance of mental health.

It all came full circle Thursday at Cowboys training camp when a fan handed him a hat with his late brother Jace’s face on it.

Prescott and the Cowboys were shaking hands with members of the military and their families, thanking them for their service.

He didn’t think nothing of the hat until he was sitting on the field, enjoying his daughters a few minutes later.

“I didn’t see it until I got with my daughters,” Prescott said. “I took it out and saw my brother’s face on it. It’s awesome.”

It also represented the first training camp that Prescott’s daughters _ Margaret Jane and Aurora Rayne, ages 2 and 1, respectively _ came to visit him without their mother Sarah Jane Ramos, following a break up between the quarterback and his fiance that became very public in the spring.

They called off their wedding earlier this offseason, a month before they were scheduled to marry in Italy.

The tabloids had a field day, blaming him for allegedly cheating and her for allegedly not signing a pre-nuptial agreement.

Prescott and his former fiance have never public addressed any of the rumors and reports.

They have simply focused on being the best co-parents they can be.

Prescott said the attention comes with job and the territory of being in the spotlight.

He initially talked about with NBC5 but delving a little farther after practice.

“I don’t necessarily think it was public to me, Prescott said. “I believe what you take in, what you read, what you look up, you’re doing that to yourself. There are a lot of false narratives out there, on both of our sides, that was very unfortunate. For me, somebody who’s been in it and knows how to whatever (handle the media…unfortunate for her. It’s kind of the life we live in. It was an unfortunate situation for obviously everybody, more importantly the kids, and so for me it’s just about making sure I’m there in every which way for them.

“100% my girls re number one.  And so, anytime I get to be with them and around them, I’m gonna do that.” 

Fatherhood has also altered Prescott’s perspective and motivation.

That he wants to be a champion and following in the footsteps of former Cowboys quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach to won a Super Bowl ring or rings remains at the forefront of his mind.

He let the world know upon his arrival at training camp that he thinks it could happen this season. He said he wants to also win now for his daughters and for them to say their dad’s a champion.

“I appreciate them getting a chance to come to my office or come out on the football field and just hang for a little bit even if they don’t fully grasp it,” Prescott said. “They’ll have these memories and stuff like that in the back of their heads and, MJ she enjoys the football side of it, saying the number 4, showing it right. I think even just seeing her dad on pictures and in places, so I think it’s cool, you know. And ultimately that’s who I wanna win for. For a long time wanted to win for myself and to prove people wrong or to prove myself right. 

 “I want those girls to say their dad’s a champion.”
