Our guest today is Andrew “Hustler” Paterson, host of Winnipeg Sports Talk. 3-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck dropped a bombshell on the NHL yesterday, when his agent, Ray Petkau, released a statement on Twitter saying that Hellebuyck wants to be traded away from the Winnipeg Jets. Hellebuyck, who led the United States men’s hockey team to the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, has played 11 seasons in the NHL, all with the Jets, totalling 625 regular season games and 58 playoff games. But now, he becomes the latest in a growing list of high profile NHL stars from that Team USA Olympic roster to request a trade in the months since capturing gold in Milan, which includes Brady Tkachuk, Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski (maybe), although he later walked that back and reaffirmed his commitment to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Amidst all this turmoil, Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is trying to retool his roster that went from winning the Presidents’ Trophy in 2024-25 to missing the playoffs altogether and finishing seventh in the Central Division in 2025-26.
