The Other 31: Calgary Flames

Our guest today is Brendan Parker, Calgary Flames TV host on Sportsnet. The Flames are both building and rebuilding. First, their arena. Opened in 1983, the iconic Scotiabank Saddledome will host its 43rd and final season of Flames hockey in 2026-27, as the team will move to their brand new arena (still under construction) Scotia Place for the 2027-28 campaign. Second, on the ice. Calgary GM Craig Conroy is currently in the midst of a full-blown rebuild. The team has not made the playoffs since 2022, when they won the Pacific Division and beat the Dallas Stars in the first round on a dramatic Game 7 overtime goal by the late Johnny Gaudreau. They then lost in the second round to the Edmonton Oilers in five games and haven’t sniffed the post season since. The Flames finished in 7th place in the Pacific in 2025-26, 13 points behind the Los Angeles Kings for the second wild card spot in the West. The Flames are not expected to be a playoff team again in 2026-27, which would be five-straight years without post season hockey in Calgary.
