I was higher than I care to remember on the Mavericks entering last season. Believe it or not, I had this team’s best-case scenario above the 50-win mark.

Yes, I agree that I was way too optimistic in my first season as a beat writer covering an NBA franchise. But now that I’ve had time to learn the Dallas Mavericks and the league more, I think this time around will be more realistic.

So, we will start with the Mavericks’ floor heading into the 2026-27 season being above their 26-56 record last season. There’s no way this team is going to be worse than the travesty that was the 2025-26 Dallas Mavericks.

So, in the words of Heath Ledger’s iconic Joker in The Dark Knight, “Well, here we go!”
