Jerry Jones once called Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, the daddy.
When it comes to the Washington Commanders and now when it comes to the all the major records for a quarterback in franchise history, Prescott is indeed the daddy.
He put kids to bed in record-breaking fashion on Sunday, passing for four touchdown passes in a 37-20 victory against the Washington Commanders on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
Prescott, who already the team passing records for yards, completions, completion percentage attempts and passer rating, surpassed Tony Romo for first in passing touchdowns with 249.
That it came against the Commanders was on brand for Prescott, who is 14-2 all-time in the series. It’s his highest-winning percentage against a single opponent.
It ties Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes for the seventh-best winning percentage against a single opponent since 1950, minimum 15 starts.
It was also his 20th consecutive win against an NFC East opponent, which ties seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady’s streak for most against a division opponent in NFL history.
It couldn’t have come at better to time for Prescott and the Cowboys, coming off the disappointing 28-20 season opening loss to the New York Giants.
They are now 1-1 heading into next Sunday’s international game against the Baltimore Ravens (1-1) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Prescott got things started on the opening drive of the game with 3-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. He tossed a 10-yard score to a wide-open Jak Ferguson in the second quarter and 12-yarder to Ferguson with a bullet in the third quarter.
The latter was set up a turnover by the beleaguered Cowboys defense thanks to a forced fumble by linebacker Jaishawn Barham and a recovery by linebacker Dee Winters to make the score 27-13.
The Cowboys were up 30-13 in the fourth quarter thanks to a 60-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey, his third made kick of the game.
Washington cut it to 30-20 on the ensuing drive with a 20-yard pass from backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to Stefan Diggs with 9 minutes, three seconds to play. It was the second touchdown of the game for Diggs, who caught a 4-yard pass from Jayden Daniels in the second quarter.
Daniels sidelined on the final play of the half when he reinjured the same elbow he dislocated last year on a third-and-goal play from the 2-yard line.
His guard steeped on his foot and then he used his left arm to brace his fall.
Not only Daniels get hurt but Washington failed to even score a field goal, giving the Cowboys a lucky couple of proverbial breaks, allowing them to take a 17-10 lead into halftime.
Prescott ended the drama in the fourth quarter with 35-yard pass to Lamb on 2nd and 12 from the 27, giving them a first down at the Washington 28 with 6:16 left in the game.
A few plays later, Prescott tossed a 24-yard touchdown to Lamb to be surpass Romo and be all alone in the Cowboys record book.
Lamb led the Cowboys with eight receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. His 153 receiving yards were the most in a game for him since 2023 against Detroit (12/30), when he had 227 yards on 13 receptions.
Prescott completed 26-of-31 passes (83.9%) for 279 yards and four touchdowns.
Overall, Prescott is 23-2 (.920) at AT&T Stadium against NFC East teams, the best win percentage all-time by any starting quarterback in division home games (min. 15 starts).
Prescott has 79 career multi-touchdown games after throwing for four touchdowns today, tying Tony Romo for the most multi-touchdown games in franchise history. Prescott is 38-11 against the NFC East in his career. His 38 wins are the most wins against one’s own division since he was drafted in 2016.
Prescott is the daddy.
