It was fairly quiet up in Frisco today, as the Dallas Stars split into two training camp practice groups following their second win of the preseason last night against the St. Louis Blues. ]
The first group was entirely younger players skating on the big and much warmer rink. A few players were missing from that group, however, as Dallas made its second round of roster moves after sending a flu-ridden Cameron Schmidt back to junior earlier.
And don’t worry, Texas Stars captain Curtis McKenzie is not just released into the wild. As my pal Robert Tiffin explained to me, McKenzie had to be on a PTO because he has an AHL contract, not an NHL deal. He will still play in Cedar Park this year.
Other players missing from that first group were the injured Tristan Bertucci and Jaxon Fuder, as well as Harrison Scott, who we hadn’t heard anything about. I did see Scott literally scooting by on a scooter — though I am not sure what specifically his lower-body injury is OR if he borrowed that scooter from Lian Bichsel/Nils Lundkvist.
Cameron Hughes was also not skating and will be further evaluated later today after suffering an upper-body injury just seconds into last night’s game.
