Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill announced Thursday that the club has signed captain Jamie Benn to a one-year, $1 million contract extension. The contract comes with a bonus structure worth up to an additional $3 million.
Benn just wrapped up a massive eight-year, $76 million contract that came with a $9.5 million AAV last season. But the 35-year-old was clear he wanted to stay, and doing so for nearly the league minimum was necessary with the Stars current cap situation. Benn has been the Dallas captain since 2013 and sits second only to Mike Modano in nearly every franchise statistical category.
“Jamie embodies everything it means to be a Dallas Star, and has since he was drafted 18 years ago,” Nill said in a statement released by the team. “There was never a doubt that Jamie would return next season, and we are thrilled for both our organization and our fans that he will continue to lead our team in our pursuit of winning a championship.”
Benn finished 2024-25 with 16 goals and 49 points, his lowest total in three seasons. He will play his 17th NHL season in 2025-26, all with Dallas.
