On Friday morning, the Dallas Stars signed captain Jamie Benn to a one-year, $850,000 contract extension.
The contract comes with the following performance bonuses attached:
- 10 games played: $200k
- 20 games played: 200k
- 40 games played: 200k
- Make the playoffs: $150k
- Each playoff round won: $100k
If the Stars win the 2027 Stanley Cup, Benn will make $1.15 million in bonuses and $2 million total.
“Jamie’s leadership and commitment to this organization is truly unmatched and he has helped define our culture,” Stars GM Jim Nill said in a team statement Friday. “He continues to set the standard on and off the ice, and we’re excited to have him leading our team for another season.”
Benn will return for his 18th NHL season in 2026-27. 18! All 18 have been in Dallas, and 14 of those have been as the team’s captain. He recorded his 400th goal last season is just eight points away from 1,000 in his career (414 goals, 578 assists in 1,252 games).
The 36-year-old winger had 15 goals and 36 points in 6o games last season despite dealing with collapsed lung surgery and a concussion. He struggled in the playoff loss to Minnesota (who didn’t?), with zero points and a minus-7 rating in six games.
