The jubilation of the Dallas Cowboys thrilling 40-37 overtime victory against the New York Giants on Sunday was muted slightly on Monday by the news of center Cooper Beebe being sidelined for six to eight weeks with a right foot injury.
The Cowboys moved Beebe to the injured reserve list to make room for the signing of defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.
Look for backup guard/center Brock Hoffman to get the start Sunday against the Chicago Bears and the near future with Beebe not expected back until possibly the Nov. 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
“Yeah, sounds like it’s going to be 6-8 weeks,” coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday. “He’s got a foot that he’s dealing with. Yeah, again, disappointed for him but again very pleased that we got a guy like Brock Hoffman that can step in. Brock ended up playing some important minutes in the overtime and against a damn good front. I thought Brock did really, really well. So Beebs will do whatever he can to get back, but it looks like it’s going to be that 6 to 8 week period.”
Beebe suffered the injury in late in the fourth quarter against the Giants on Sunday, forcing Hoffman to play the final 16 snaps of regulation and overtime.
Hoffman is not a novice as he started six games last year at right guard in 2024. He also had one start last year at center when Beebe missed a game with a concussion. He started a game at center in 2023.
There was one hiccup with Hoffman and Prescott on Sunday with a fumbled snap. Prescott fell on the ball. He also took the blame for the bad exchange, saying it was on him and not Hoffman.
The Cowboys love Hoffman’s nasty and physical playing style and demeanor.
“Brock does that even without playing,” Schottenheimer said. “I mean at practice, he does it. On gameday, from the sideline, he does it. So when he’s out there, it’s just maybe more noticeable for everybody else. But the intensity the guy plays with, the trash that he talks is kind of fun and cool. He gets underneath the defenders, gets in their heads a little bit. But yeah, his play style. He’s wired the right way. And our guys love him but he’s definitely one of the leaders in that room. He helps orchestrate a lot of the post practice stuff that we do.
“It’s just great to have a guy like that when something like this happens that you can look to.”
