The 2024 season is over for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who plans to undergo surgery to repair hamstring that partially torn off the bone.
Recovery time can roughly four months.
Prescott confirmed that he is headed to New York to get a final opinion from a specialist, which was first reported by ESPN.
A firm decision on surgery won’t be made until next week.
But for intents and purposes, Prescott’s season is over, even without the surgery.
Vice president Stephen Jones echoed sentiments made by owner Jerry Jones earlier this week when he said on Friday that Prescott was headed to the injured reserve list.
“I think it’s probably no way he can be back in the four-week timeframe,” Jones said on his radio show on the team’s flagship station. “We’ll put him over there and we’ll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there.
“Obviously a tough, tough situation, losing him for that period time, but we’re going to do what’s in the best interest of Dak and right now I don’t think anyone knows whether it’ll be four weeks, six weeks or the season. We’ll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us.”
Prescott went down with the injury last week in a 27-21 loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
It was the team’s third straight set back and the Cowboys are 3-5 heading into Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles (6-2).
Cooper Rush will start against the Eagles with Trey Lance serving as his back up. Rush is 5-1 in his career as a starter in place of Prescott.
Prescott’s season, which begin with him signing the richest quarterback contract in NFL history with a four-year, $240 million deal, will end with him passing for 1,978 yards with 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.
