Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will undergo season ending surgery Wednesday on his injured hamstring, owner Jerry Jones announced Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan.
Prescott suffered the injury in the 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. It was diagnosed as a partial avulsion where his hamstring was partially torn off the bone.
The decision to undergo season-ending surgery comes after a meeting with a specialist in New York on Monday.
“His prognosis is wonderful,” Jones said. “It just means we’re not going to have him for the rest of the year.”
Prescott will face a three-month rehab after surgery, which should lessen the chances of re-injury.
Cooper Rush started in last Sunday’s 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and will again start against the Houston Texans next Monday.
Jones said Rush gives the Cowboys the best chance to win.
But he said the Cowboys will use Trey Lance in some packages to take advantage of his speed
and athleticism.
The Cowboys (3-6) have lost four-straight games for the first time since 2020 when they finished 6-10 and Prescott missed the last 11 games with a fractured ankle.
Prescott began the season signing the richest contract in NFL history with a four-year, $240 million contract.
He ends up playing just eight games, throwing 11 touchdown passes with 8 interceptions.
