Cowboys shake up secondary as Trevon Diggs to rotate, not start vs. Packers

Earlier this week, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer hinted at some potential changes ahead of the team’s Week 4 Sunday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Those changes will be apparent at the cornerback position, with Pro Bowl CB Trevon Diggs not starting against the Packers, but will rotate, per Kristi Scales of 105.3 The Fan. Starting at the corner vs. Green Bay will be All-Pro DaRon Bland, who makes his return from a foot injury that caused him to miss Dallas’ last two games, as well as Kaiir Elam and Reddy Steward.

The veteran cornerback has struggled this season allowing big plays in the pass defense, including one last week vs. the Bears, against Rome Odunze who beat Diggs for a 35-yard touchdown.

Injuries, over the past two seasons, have played a significant role in the defender’s struggles. In 2023, Diggs suffered a torn ACL in practice just before Week 3. In December 2024, he underwent surgery on his left knee to repair the damaged cartilage.

Diggs was a question mark entering the season for the Week 1 season opener vs. the Eagles while still recovering from surgery but managed to play in just 27 snaps during the 24-20 loss.
