CB Trevon Diggs facing another major knee surgery, raising concerns about his Dallas Cowboys future

The hits continue to coming for the Dallas Cowboys (5-8) during what has already been a nightmare of a 2024 season.

Cornerback Trevon Diggs didn’t make the trip to Charlotte for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. After initially being listed as questionable, Diggs was downgraded to out due to a knee injury and is now headed for season-ending surgery.

Diggs said last week that he has been dealing with a knee issue all season and he aggravated it last Monday’s 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

He was limited in practice this week before the team decided to shut him down for the season.

Diggs missed 14 games last season a torn ACL in left knee in Week 3. Although this injury is also to the left knee, it is a separate issue from the ACL, per sources.

Diggs played 11 games this season and was 44 tackles, two interceptions and 11 pass deflections.

He was never able to regain his Pro Bowl form and had nagging issues with his calf and groin in addition to his knee.

With Diggs headed for surgery and a lengthy rehab, there are now questions about his future with the Cowboys.

He has a cap hit of $14.25 million in 2025. His dead cap hit if the Cowboys cut him would be $12.75 million.

It is decision the Cowboys will have to make quickly as his $9 million base salary in 2025 becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the league year.

Diggs has just played 14 games since signing a five-year, $97 million deal in 2023.

He will be the fifth former Pro Bowler to be placed on injured reserve this year by the Cowboys, joining quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring avulsion), guard Zack Martin (ankle), defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) and cornerback DaRon Bland (foot).

Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons missed four games with a high ankle sprain. Bland missed the first 10 games of the season but has played in the last three.

And this list doesn’t even include rising star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, receiver Brandin Cooks, defensive end Marshawn Kneeland who have spent time on injured reserved. Overshown is out for the season.
