Now that the Dallas Cowboys have signed CeeDee Lamb, how quickly will he be ready?

Dallas Cowboys fans were undoubtedly thrilled Monday afternoon about the Cowboys and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb agreeing to a new four-year extension worth a total of $136 million.

They weren’t the only ones.

“The reaction was great,” Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said. “Everybody in the office was fired up.”

So much so, that celebrations and loud clapping could reportedly be heard for 15 minutes from The Star in Frisco.

Lamb, according to McCarthy, is on his way to the facitly after spending the entire training camp away from the team. He’s expected to take a physical and sign his deal before beginning the ramp=up process. The season opener on the road agianst the Cleveland Browns is just 13 days away, but in McCarthy’s eyes that should be enough time to get Lamb up to speed and ready.

For multiple reasons.

This week was always looked at as a pseudo-deadline for Lamb to sign if he wanted to play against the Browns. The Cowboys will have night practices on the Tuesday and Wednesday that are open to the public. This week serves more of a walkthrough than a regular week prior to a game.

Perfect for a ramp up, McCarthy said.

The Cowboys also have a lot of confidence in Lamb’s ability to pick up where he left off from a conditioning and mental standpoint. While the Cowboys were in Oxnard, Lamb worked out on his own. He chronicled his workouts often on social media. Even in Oxnard, Lamb’s teammates, coaches and even executives were confident about his ability to be ready to go whenever the time came. Or, in his words, when the phone rang.

Lamb is also coming off a record-setting season for yards and receptions in team history. He did that in his first season of the new offense under McCarthy and offensive cooridnator Brian Schottenheimer. There are going to be some adjustments to the offense, McCarthy said, but Lamb should be in the loop and ready to put them into practice.

“He stayed on top of that through iPads and things,” McCarthy said. “It’ll be great to get him out there and work.”

There is a ramp-up process for a reason, though. Ensuring Lamb is fully conditioned is part of it. So is getting him in football shape.

“I don’t really think it’s going to be a concern, but it’s really just the connectiin and the little things and details,” McCarthy said about getting Lamb prepped for Week 1. “We just have to get back and running the routes and getting into the 7on7s and the team periods. He needs body on body contested catches — have his contact balance tested and all those types of things. You really only get that playing football.”

And though it was never really in doubt, Lamb now is on track to play again for the Cowboys. There’s a reason why celebrations rang around The Star today for quite some time.

“I think with CeeDee, not only what he brings to the table — we’ve been talking about what he does from his production — but when that big smile walks into the locker room everybody’s going to be fired up. He brings that type of juice and he brings that type of energy to our locker room.”
