With the 149th overall pick and in the fifth round on third day of the 2025 NFL Draft, two years after making running back a draft priority, the Dallas Cowboys finally got their man in Texas speedster Jaydon Blue.

Blue rushed for 730 yards and eight touchdowns on 134 carries in 15 games last season, missing one game with a right ankle injury. He also had 42 receptions for 368 yards and six touchdowns.

His calling card is his speed and versatility as a pass catcher out of the back field.

Blue’s official 40-yard dash time at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine was 4,38. He also ran a 4.25 and 4.28 at his Pro Day.

“Man, a lot of versatility,” Blue said when asked what he was going to bring to the Cowboys. “That’s really the main thing. Bringing speed, the ability to catch the ball out of backfield and run routes. I’m willing to go in there and put my body on the line for the team, man. I’m just willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win man. That’s all I’m about. I’m a team guy.”

Blue joins a Cowboys running back room that includes free agent signees Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders to go along with holdovers Deuce Vaughn, Hunter Leupke and Malik Davis.

It will be running back approach by the committee for the Cowboys in 2025.

Blue, who shared the load to Texas the past three seasons, should bring immediate juice and big-play potential to the offense with his speed.

He compares his game to Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

“Me and Jahmyr Gibbs are very similar, similar body types. We’re both fast,” Blue said. “We both got great burst, short area quickness to make guys miss. We both thrive in the passing game. I think we do a lot of being similar. Me and him play just alike.”

One thing Blue was improve on with the Cowboys is his ball security.

He fumbled seven times the past two seasons at Texas, including five in 2024.

Blue, a Houston native, is happy to get a chance to play close to home.

“This means a lot. It still feels surreal to this moment,” Blue said. “I always ended up wanting to play in my home state, and for the Cowboys, especially the America’s team. It’s close to home. So for me to be able to have a chance to play for them, where a lot of my family don’t have to travel very long, it means the world to me.”
