The Dallas Cowboys have seemingly reached out to an old friend to possibly solve their need for a swing tackle, as the team acquired former first-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, a day before final cut.

The Steelers. coached by former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, are receiving a future third- and sixth-round draft pick in the deal, while the Cowboys also get a fourth-rounder in addition to Jones.

It solves an immediate need for the Cowboys were disappointed with their options at swing tackle behind left tackle Tyler Guyton and right tackle Terence Steele.

Nate Thomas and rookie fourth-round pick Drew Shelton have not been up to par in training camp or the preseason.

Now, Jones is not without questions himself. He was a disappointment in Pittsburgh, who took him with the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He has started 38 games through his first three NFL seasons. But last year he suffered a season-ending neck injury in Week 12, and he has to get all of his weight and strength back. He has played in every preseason game.

But Jones gives the Cowboys an experienced backup tackle option with some upside who can still be developed.

Jones is in the fourth and final season of his four-year rookie contract. He is scheduled to make $1.5 million this season, and he’ll hit free agency in 2027.
