The Dallas Stars biggest order of business this summer will be signing restricted free agent Jason Robertson to a new contract. Robertson was the Stars’ leading scorer in the 2025-26 regular season (96 points) and was tied for the team-lead in goals (45) with Wyatt Johnston. Plus, he led the team in playoff goals (5) and was second in points (8). He is coming off a four-year contract that had an AAV of $7.75M and he is due for a healthy raise – his qualifying offer is set for $9.3M. The question is, with limited salary cap space, how do the Stars fit a long-term contract extension for Robertson AND fill out the rest of their roster with four other UFA forwards (Jamie Benn, Michael Bunting, Adam Erne & Nathan Bastian) and two other RFA forwards (Mavrik Bourque & Arttu Hyry). Also today, we have a log-jam of NHL News & Notes, including Toronto winning the NHL Draft Lottery, the finalists announced for both the Calder Trophy & Selke Trophy, Jim Rutherford’s announcement that he will step down as Vancouver Canucks president of hockey operations after the 2026 NHL Draft. Additionally, the Texas Stars were eliminated from the AHL’s Calder Cup Playoffs last night at the hands of the Chicago Wolves and the Colorado Avalanche took a 2-0 series lead over the Minnesota Wild with a 5-2 win in Game 2 last night at Ball Arena.
