Luke Jackson shouldered the blame for the three-run ninth inning Thursday that spoiled Opening Day for the Texas Rangers in a 5-2 loss to the Red Sox. He appears to be the first choice at closer, but it could be a fluid situation in the bullpen that also sees Chris Martin attempt to get the final three outs. Jackson wasn’t all to blame, though, as Josh Jung’s inability to get the second out of the ninth led to the Rangers to pitch to Wilyer Abreu. He hit a three-run homer. But the Rangers still have 161 games to play, so manager Bruce Bochy likes the Rangers’ chances if a similar situation unfolds. After six strong innings from Nathan Eovaldi on Opening Day, the Rangers would probably be happy with five good innings from Friday starter Jack Leiter.
