Dallas Mavericks center Anthony Davis didn’t score until the fourth quarter in Friday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Standing at his locker afterward, he said, “I hold myself accountable.”
He backed that up against the Rockets, scoring 29 points and grabbing eight rebounds in Dallas’ 122-109 win at the American Airlines Center.
Davis set the tone early by going straight at Clint Capela, whom Houston signed last offseason.
While the Thunder sent frequent double teams at Davis, the Rockets mostly let him and Capela play straight up.
Davis has dominated Capela throughout their careers, averaging 23.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 19 matchups. Saturday was no different.
Capela tried to stay in front, but Davis consistently moved him under the rim. When given space, Davis rose over him for midrange jumpers.
Brandon Williams added 20 points for Dallas.
