Mavericks lose to Wizards

Clank, clank, clank. That was the sound of the Mavericks’ 3-point attempts hitting off the bright orange rim at the American Airlines Center. Dallas shot 29.4% from 3-point range in its 117-107 loss to the Washington Wizards.

The Mavericks continue to struggle on offense. After shooting just 37.3% from the field against the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas shot 43.2%  from the floor against Washington.

The Mavericks started fast, taking a 35-28 lead at the end of the first quarter. But the tide quickly turned as the Wizards outscored them 66-43 over the next two quarters.

Outside of Anthony Davis and P.J. Washington, the Mavericks couldn’t find much offense. Davis finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds but failed to make a 3-pointer. Washington had 18 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-14 but also committed eight turnovers.

One of the most surprising moments of the game came when D’Angelo Russell played just eight minutes. Russell, the Mavericks’ biggest offseason addition, has scored only seven points through the team’s first two games.

Dallas will have a chance to bounce back Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.
