Instant Reactions: Rockets strong rebounding leads them past Mavericks 

When Rockets guard Amen Thompson misses a shot, he doesn’t panic.

The third-year point guard is one of the best offensive rebounders in the NBA at his position, and Monday night was no different. He rebounded his own miss then was rewarded with an alley-oop pass by Kevin Durant, which he turned into a reverse  dunk

His ability to create extra possessions added to the Rockets’ 15 offensive rebounds, which helped them beat Dallas 110-102.

The Mavericks trailed just 58-55 at halftime, but Houston went on a 16-5 run in the third quarter. The Rockets went 6-of-7 from the field during that stretch, while the Mavericks were 2-of-7.

P.J. Washington and Cooper Flagg were bright spots for Dallas. Washington finished with 29 points and 12 rebounds, dominating in the paint with several hook shots over Houston’s big men.

Flagg started strong with nine points in the first quarter but injured his left shoulder in the second on a collision with Rockets forward Tari Eason. He finished with only 12 points.
