The Dallas Mavericks have officially selected Cooper Flagg with the 2025 NBA Draft’s No. 1 pick, completing the team’s stunning lottery win last month by drafting the consensus top prospect from Duke. There were no last minute surprises, no more reason for even the most pessimistic Mavericks fan to be concerned: Flagg will play for the Dallas Mavericks next season.
Now, of course, there are many more questions into Flagg’s fit and how Dallas will shape the roster around him. Right now, it appears that the team will be taking a “two timelines” approach, trying to compete for championships now with the 33-year-old Kyrie Irving and 32-year-old Anthony Davis before centering the franchise’s full focus around their new young star. Not everyone loves it, but it makes some sense. You can read about that here.
There’s certainly also intrigue about who Flagg is, and his backstory is both fascinating and important to understand who he is on the court, as well. For that, catch up with this story.
There’s a lot more to know about Flagg and this new chapter of Mavericks history which officially began this Wednesday night. Right now, in case you’ve found this article and are not a subscribing diehard, be sure to check out our limited time $36 offer for your first year.
