The former Mavericks head coach and legendary NBA figure, who died Sunday in Frisco, went off into the proverbial sunset the only way Nellie could: surrounded by a party-like atmosphere and an abundance of his longtime NBA cronies at a service of worship at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church on Thursday morning.
As people walked into the church, they were greeted by a gathering of NBA legends, fans, media members and family, many of them smiling. It was not because they were ready to let Nellie go, but because they were grateful for the happiness he had brought into their lives.
