P.J. Washington Jr. was the hero of the 2024 Western Conference Semifinals. Since then, he has faced hardship, both on and off the court.
But Washington has found peace playing for his hometown team — and getting tattoos.
Washington was put under anesthesia three times over the summer as Ganga, a tattoo artist, and another artist made some of his biggest memories in Dallas permanent on his body. The 6-foot-8 forward had his entire back tattooed and finished his leg pieces.
“It was a quick process,” Washington said. “I went in, got the sketches done, they put me to sleep, and I woke up and now we’re here. So I mean it’s the easiest way to get tattoos.”
One of those pieces depicts Washington’s iconic “Standing on Business” pose following the Mavericks’ Game 6 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. He averaged 17.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while making 23 3-pointers, in six games.
The moment remains part of Mavericks lore. It was the last season the franchise won a playoff series.
“I think it was a big pivotal moment for me in my career, obviously, going to the playoffs and making a name for myself,” he said.
