Cooper Flagg shines at point guard, but Jazz stun Mavericks late
Dallas Mavericks guard Cooper Flagg sprinted down the court against the Utah Jazz, gave the ball up to Ryan Nembhard, then soared to the rim as the point guard lobbed an alley-oop back to the No. 1 overall pick.
The dunk highlighted a dominant third quarter from Flagg, who had six points, six assists and four rebounds in the period as Dallas outscored Utah 34-30.
But while Flagg filled up the stat sheet, a late injury to Anthony Davis in the fourth quarter derailed the Mavericks’ chances of holding their lead.
Utah closed the game on an 11-1 run and escaped with a 116-114 win Thursday night.
The Mavericks and Jazz will meet twice more over the next nine days, with Utah visiting Dallas on Jan. 15 and Jan. 17.
