Donnie Ecker said his goal as “offensive coordinator” was to do the same as the football equivalent — he wanted the Rangers to “control the ball” and think about things like possession time and owning at-bats.
Whatever he preached, the Rangers have done none of it. They give away at-bats routinely. There’s no need for opposing pitchers to throw them strikes — the Rangers manage to get themselves out on their own.
They’re all guilty. They’re all pressing. They’re all trying to hit the ball hard, every swing, every pitch. They seem to treat walks like wasted at-bats. It’s terrible baseball to watch, and it’s tragic considering the outstanding starting pitching this team has gotten.
Boos could be heard after the final out Wednesday night. This team should expect to hear more.
