Just hours after the NBA trade deadline passed, the Mavs eclipsed 120 points against one of the league’s top defenses, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the San Antonio Spurs.
Forwards Cooper Flagg and Naji Marshall each scored 32 points for Dallas, but the Spurs pulled away for a 135-123 victory on Thursday night.
San Antonio center Victor Wembanyama led the way with 29 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three blocks. He had plenty of help, as six other Spurs finished in double figures.
Mavericks guard Max Christie added 20 points, three rebounds and four assists. He knocked down two 3-pointers in the loss.
With 4:08 remaining in the fourth quarter, Marshall connected on a floater over multiple defenders, prompting Spurs coach Mitch Johnson to call a timeout. Marshall finished with four 3-pointers, six rebounds and three assists.
