Just prior to making the official announcment this morning, Dallas Stars president and CEO, Brad Alberts, met with a handful of local media to discuss the team’s game broadcast shift from Victory + to Amazon Prime Video.
We have always strived to deliver our fans with the best broadcast experience in the NHL,” Alberts said in the team’s official press release. “Our launch on Prime Video ensures that fans can watch our games on a service that is widely available and easily accessible.
Here is what we learned during his media availability.
Stars move to Amazon Prime Video is real
As we at DLLS reported on Monday, the Stars have now confirmed that they will be moving their regional game broadcasts from Victory+ to Amazon Prime Video, starting this season.
Stars fans within the regional network (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas) will be able to watch all 71 non-national TV games. Outside of the region, fans will still need ESPN+ to tune in.
While this will not be a completely free streaming option like Victory+ was, Stars games will be included in the basic Amazon Prime subscription. If you have Amazon Prime for shopping or other video, you have Stars games.
If you dont, you will need to pay for Prime or Prime Video to gain access (currently either Prime Video only for $8.99 per month or full Amazon Prime for $14.99 per month/ $139 per year — $7.49 per month or $69 per year for adults ages 18–24 and college students.)
As of right now, there will be no local alternative to Prime. If you want to watch the Stars around the DFW region, you will need to do so on Amazon Prime (mostly). However, the team does expect to have 17 games locally televised on Fox4 and More27. Those will be announced at a later date.
