No matter how you spin it or how negative you/we want to be, there is no denying that the Dallas Stars are still a very good hockey team.
Even with Matt Duchene missing at least 10 games or 24 days on LTIR with a lower-body injury to start the year, Dallas can still roll out any combination of Jason Robertson, Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, Miro Heiskanen, Thomas Harley, and Roope Hintz. Add to that a healthy Tyler Seguin, lighter Jamie Benn, and some excellent goaltending, and it becomes clear why, despite not adding or “improving” this summer, Dallas remains a Stanley Cup contender.
But they looked anything but a contender in their first two games of the season. And while that is obviously early and far too much so to really be worried, the lack of production and 5-on-5 pressure in those games only added to the anxiety of fans.
Then came Monday night’s game at home against the San Jose Sharks.
