The Minnesota Wild snapped a 10-year drought in April, when they beat the Dallas Stars in six games in the first round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was the first series win for the Wild since the 2015 post season. GM Bill Guerin made a huge splash last season when he traded a king’s ransom for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes, a move that helped Guerin with the Jim Gregory GM of the Year award. However, the Wild crashed out of the playoffs in the second round in just five games to the Colorado Avalanche. Minnesota is clearly one of the current “Big Three” in the Central Division, along with the Stars and Avalanche, and will be expecting to contend for the top of the division and the Stanley Cup in 2026-27. It may be recency bias, but are the Wild currently the Stars’ biggest rival?
