The Other 31: Vegas Golden Knights

Our guest today is Jesse Granger, Golden Knights beat writer for The Athletic. Since arriving as an NHL franchise for the 2017-18 season, the Vegas Golden Knights have been one of the most successful organizations in the league. They have qualified for the playoffs in eight of their nine seasons, capturing the Pacific Division regular season title five times, winning 11 playoff series, reaching the Stanley Cup Final three times and winning the Stanley Cup in 2023. Vegas came up short against the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2026 Final and then released short-term head coach John Tortorella. They hired Ryan Craig, who has worked in the organization for all nine years, six as an NHL assistant coach and the past three seasons as head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights. Will the Golden Knights reload for another run at Lord Stanley’s chalice? Or will the relatively new “Evil Empire” of the NHL regress towards the mean?
