The Other 31: Chicago Blackhawks

Our guest today is Mark Lazerus, senior NHL writer for The Athletic based out of Chicago. The Blackhawks won three Stanley Cups over a six year period (2010, 2013, 2015) and were the dynastic NHL team of the 2010s. However, they have fallen on hard times as an organization, having finished no higher than sixth place in the Central Division over the last nine seasons. Their only playoff appearance during that span was the expanded 2020 Bubble Playoffs in Edmonton, where they surprised the Oilers in the qualifying round, before losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round. They have a franchise cornerstone in Connor Bedard and they have brought Patrick Kane, at age 37, back into the fold. While the Blackhawks might not have much expectation to contend for a playoff spot this season, they will be hoping to make some incremental improvements.
