Nathan Eovaldi is out for the season, and the Texas Rangers needed A) some offense in their first start without him and B) a nice starting effort from Jacob Latz. The Rangers got both, as Adolis Garcia, Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Kyle Higashioka homered and Latz allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings in a 20-3 victory over the Angels that capped a 5-1 homestand that has strengthened the Rangers’ pulse as they fight for their playoff lives. The Rangers put up 20 for the first time since 2011, and though eight came off a position player, they all count. Next up is for the Rangers is an off day Thursday, followed by a six-game road trip to face the A’s and Diamondbacks. The Rangers have been one of the worst road teams in baseball this season, and that trend has to change for the Rangers to remain viable in the postseason picture.
