Texas Rangers fan favorite Travis Jankowski returns to the organization as a member of manager Skip Schumaker’s first coaching staff.
More than a month has passed since Skip Schumaker was introduced as Texas Rangers manager, and nearly two weeks have flown by since Mike Maddux and Tony Beasley decided to not return.
Along with the departures of Bobby Wilson and Bret Boone, more was known about who wouldn’t be on Schumaker’s first coaching staff than who would be on it. The mystery ended Wednesday at the annual GM meetings.
The Rangers revealed nine of the 10 positions on their 2026 major-league coaching staff, including a pleasant surprise — 2023 player and fan favorite Travis Jankowski will be the first-base coach.
Jordan Tiegs, the bullpen coach in 2025, will replace Maddux as pitching coach. Replacing Tiegs is Colby Suggs, a native Texan who spent last season as the Twins’ bullpen coach.
Also new to the staff are hitting coach Alex Cintron and quality-control coach Rod Barajas, who join 2024 holdovers Luis Urieta, Justin Viele, Corey Ragsdale, Dave Bush and Brett Hayes. Ragsdale will replace Tony Beasley as third-base coach.
Jankowski will transition from player to coach after playing for the Rangers in 2024 and for two teams in 2025. He was a key cog of the World Series team in 2023 as an early-season fill-in for Leody Taveras and in Game 4 and 5 of the World Series for the injured Adolis Garcia.
Barajas is also a former Rangers player, from 2004-2006, and was teammates with president of baseball operations Chris Young.
