Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom was selected as the American League Comeback Player of the Year, an award that should surprise no one after he made 30 starts in 2025 and posted a 2.97 ERA. Here’s the catch: That was his “rebound” season from Tommy John surgery, and the expectation is that he will be better in 2026. One way to accomplish that is to cut down on home runs. Otherwise, deGrom seems primed for an even bigger season. He will be pitching with Jordan Tiegs as the pitching coach and an old teammate, Travis Jankowski, as the first-base coach on manager Skip Schumaker’s first coaching staff.
